Domestic Violence And The Ongoing 911 Calls For Domestic...

Introduction Police Departments struggle with the ongoing 911 calls for domestic disturbances. The majority of domestic disturbance calls are nonviolent, verbal disputes. There are repeat callers where police respond so many times that they know them by name and their background. However, most of those domestic incidents do escalate to violence. NCVS reports that domestic violence accounts for 21% of all violent crimes. Woman against abuse reports that more than 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men have experienced severe physical violence by an intimate partner at some point in their lifetime. Domestic violence takes on many forms such as: 1. Physical—hitting, slapping, punching, 2. Sexual—forced sexual intercourse 3. Emotional—name calling,†¦show more content†¦In addition, another factor to look at is how many times were they referred to get a protection form abuse order and how long did it take them to actually get the order. Did the victim wait until things got to the point where he physically hurt her before getting the order? Or did she go as soon as she felt threatened? Hypothesis Repeated verbal domestic incidents invariably lead to physical violence. Methodology How many calls to a location for domestic incident where it is verbal, lead to the escalation of physical violence? Data Collection Data will be collected from police departments in four districts: [1] 75-48D reports and [2] Victims Assistance Officers database. Victims Assistance Officers (VAO) are assigned to every police district in Philadelphia. The VAO has to keep an ongoing database of domestic incidents reported to their police district. The database holds name and other demographics, but the main function of the database is to count how many time a person made a police report for domestic incident and forward those reports to Woman Against Abuse when the number reaches 2 and all the rest go to the Domestic Violence Unit in the detective Bureau. This database is most important data needed as well as 911 call records. Getting signed permission from the willing participants, to obtain hospital records will be check against the police reports.
